Last week at the NYS Vital Signs Conference, I had the pleasure of speaking with Dr. Jason Gluck, of Simulated Interactive Advanced Medical Education Center (SIAMEC), who along with his partners have recently launched
a state-of-the-art mobile education center housing two fully stocked simulation labs and a central control center. The simulation lab provides a controlled, safe and reproducible environment for scenario based, advanced education on adult and infant computerized patient simulators.

Due to its mobile design, SIAMEC offers the opportunity to practice and learn in a university level lab at any location.

This mobile lab that they will bring to your area will challenge your skills and foster teamwork among your providers.
2008 Fire Prevention Tips from NFPA

Fire Prevention Week sponsored by the National Fire Prevention Association (NFPA) has some tips on reducing potential hazards with the cooler season approaching.
Although, the resources focus on home fires, it’s also important to review your station and facilities on the job to make sure that everything is up to code.
- Inspect your heating system.
- Check & clean chimney, vents, & plenum ventilation.
- Ensure supplemental heating devices are in good working order.
- Verify that the proper extension cords are rated for your device.
- Replace batteries in your smoke & carbon monoxide detectors when you change the clocks.
As the national week comes to a close, take time to review the above items and checklist [PDF] for your safety. Also available from the NFPA, is a quiz to help spark ideas to prevent fires.
